Farmers in Dado, Alamada, both Muslims and Christians, yesterday welcomed the first units of the German-engineered CLAAS and Italian-made Landini farm tractors which arrived in the area to start plowing and preparing the fields for the planting of Soybeans and Sorghum.
The first five units of tractors will be beefed up by additional units to cover the large areas which the farmers would like to be included in the Sorghum Growership Program of the Southseas Agri-Aqua Ventures, Inc. (SAAVI) and the Soybeans Production Program of the Braveheart Farms.
SAAVI is a new agricultural corporation organized earlier this year where I am the Chief Operations Officer with former Senator Panfilo Lacson as Chairman and several other friends as directors.
It is mainly involved in the promotion of Sorghum farming by providing seeds and technology to farmers with a Buy-Back Agreement.
Braveheart Farms, on the other hand, is a small farming enterprise which I own which is involved in the promotion of Soybeans.
Both Soybeans and Sorghum are important components in food and feed production.
Along with the modern tractors which drew excited reaction from the farmers yesterday, additional equipment to be fielded to the area would include Agricultural Drones to undertake the spraying of foliar fertilizer and insect repellants, mechanical harvester and grains cleaner.
All of the equipment will be made available to the farmers who will participate in the Sorghum and Soybeans Program under a Plow Now-Pay Later or Use Now-Pay Later Program.
The concept of allowing farmers access to modern farm equipment on a deferred payment scheme was started when I was Governor of Cotabato in the early 2000s.
It was very helpful to the farmers as it allowed them to expand their farms without having to spend money up front.
