“Oohs” and “Aahs” were heard from the thousands of 1st Tulabong Festival attendees as three young skydivers jumped from a Cessna plane at 6,000 feet up in the sky and landed in the midst of the crowd gathered at the M’lang Central Mindanao Airport Feb. 16.
The three skydivers made their first jump as the Cessna plane passed over the airport for the first time and landed without any hitch.
In the second jump, however, tragedy almost marred the event as the star jumper, Wilson Sonoria, suffered from a parachute malfunction.
Sonoria’s main parachute got entangled and did not open forcing him to “cut away” from his main parachute and instantly opened his reserve.
He landed safely much to the relief of the crowd which witnessed the near tragedy.
“Presence of mind lang,” Sonoria later said recounting his near-tragic jump which he said was the first time to happen to him.
Another jumper also suffered bruises in his left knee after he landed with his knees in the second jump.
Aside from these two incidents, however, nothing untoward happened during the successful celebration of the 1st Tulabong Festival.
