The Philippines’ Jundy “Pretty Boy” Maraon and his team composed of trainer Nonito Donaire Sr. and business manager Vincent Scolpino are now in New Jersey a day before the official weigh-in for tomorrow’s world bantamweight championship bout against Juan Carlos Payano of the Dominican Republic.
Half a world away, in Johannesburg, South Africa, Edrin “The Sting” Dapudong is taking his rest ahead of his scheduled weigh-in Friday for his rematch against his nemesis, Gideon Buthelezi for the IBO Junior Bantamweight crown.
Both fighters are dedicating their fights for their loved ones.
Maraon, 28, wants to win the fight against Payano so he could bring his wife and young child to the US where he is expected to campaign.
The fighter who is managed by the Braveheart Boxing Club of North Cotabato and is originally from Molave, Zamboanga del Sur, also said he wants to win the fight for his trainer Donaire Sr., whom he considers as his foster father.
Dapudong, also 28, says he wants to win his rematch with Buthelezi so he could raise enough money for his sickly mother who is now in a hospital in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato.
Both fighters are facing tough opponents but they have expressed confidence that they will win the fight and bring home two world boxing titles in one weekend.
