For the last 27 years, I have been married to a woman who gave up her own career to be the mother of our children.
And what a remarkable mother she is.
She has raised three well-behaved and loving children every father could be proud of.
In all of these years, Emily has stayed in the backstage.
She was never comfortable in her role as a politician’s wife, choosing to let me do my job on my own.
Unlike other politician’s wives who would wield their influence on their husbands to gain business transactions in government, I can proudly say that my wife never sold anything to the provincial government when I was Governor, not even a toothpick.
She would only visit the provincial capitol during special occasions like the foundation week or the Christmas gatherings of employees.
She has stood for me acting as the mother and the father of our children at the same time during the many and countless times I was away from home.
Today, as I celebrate my birthday, I also celebrate my 27th year of marriage to Emily Asentista, the mother of my children.
The 27 years have not really been a bed of roses as the idiom says.
I may not have been a perfect husband neither am I a perfect person. No one is.
But I and my children are so blessed to have this woman in our lives.
Happy anniversary my dear wife. May God bless you more.
