On Thursday, Sept. 15, I was asked by the West Visayas State University (WVSU) Medical School to be their Speaker in their monthly Medical Assemblage attended by Medical Professors and Practitioners and their students.
Since I was (and still) out of the country, I joined the Medical Assemblage via ZOOM and shared my thoughts on the worsening problem of malnutrition and under-nutrition in the country.
I presented a program called “Nutrition-Guided Food Production Program” which I had long championed since I was appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as Agriculture Secretary in 2016.
With the support of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, I designed the “National Food Consumption Quantification Study” which the UN-FAO funded and conducted.
I have always believed that Agriculture is not just about Food Production but it should primarily be about building a healthy nation.
In the WVSU Medical Assemblage presentation, I prepared several slides which were shown to the participants as I made my speech.
I am sharing these slides with you because I believe that this is a topic which should be given serious attention and focus by government.
I hope this will result in a greater awareness that our food production should be primarily aimed at providing the nutrition needed by our children for us to build a healthy nation.
