While the commissioned surveys do not show us in the Top 20 among the Senatorial candidates, there is a trend in the Social Media which could present another view of popular support – the number of Facebook followers.
Over the last four months, the number of followers of our Facebook Page MannyPiñol has increased by over 90,000, from 850,000 last year to over 940,000 as of today.
Sasabihin ng iba “sa Facebook lang yan.”
Yan din ang sinabi nila when I led the social media campaign for then Mayor Rody Duterte way back in 2014 because he was lagging in the commissioned surveys of SWS, Pulse Asia and others.
Back then, sabi ko do not disregard the social media trending because it cuts accross all sectors kasi pati ordinaryong manggagawa ngayon ay may Facebook account.
While the surveys back then showed him at No. 3 and 4, my Facebook posts about him were getting millions of viewers and readers.
According to the social media data “There were 73,170,000 Facebook users in Philippines in January 2020, which accounted for 64.5% of its entire population. The majority of them were women – 53%. People aged 18 to 24 were the largest user group at 24-million.”
In as far as our FB Page is concerned, I am seeing a consistent increase of followers weekly of between 1,000 to 2,000 depending on the relevance of the articles I post.
The social media followings may not be an accurate indication of voters’ preference or choices but at least it gives us a glimpse into the issues that the netizens are concerned about.
