The first batch of the 140 Pure Spanish Goats from Texas has been loaded in Korean Air flight from San Francisco to Manila.
They are expected to arrive April 27 and will be transported to a Quarantine Facility in Makilala, North Cotabato.
The Spanish Goats which weigh up to 70 kilos will be used to upgrade Philippine Goats to increase meat production.
The breeding facility, Mindanao Small Ruminants Nucleus Farm, is a project of the Bureau of Animal Industry National Livestock Program in partnership with a local farmers group, COLIPAA Cooperative.
I helped design this program with the support of DA Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr.
The MSRNF will be managed by a young veterinarian from Antipas, North Cotabato, Dr. Roland Fajardo who was Magna Cum Laude in his Advanced Animal Genetics Masteral Course in Hungary.
