There is not too many Catholic Churches in Johannesburg and we had to drive for about 20 minutes before we found one in what seemed to be an affluent neighborhood in the suburbs of Johannesburg.
Problem was the gates of the first Church we went to were closed.
So, our driver-bodyguard Jacob Mhaputi had to drive us farther down the city and brought us to the Mater Dolorosa Church, also in the suburbs of Johannesburg.
The long trip was worth it.
The small church which is cared for by members of Opus Dei is a beautiful and serene place of worship.
Fr. Thomas, the Argentinian priest who I talked with also shared with me a pleasant surprise – the Bishop of Johannesburg belongs to the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, the same order in whose seminary in Cotabato City, I once studied in.
