One of the two barangay chairmen who was intercepted three days ago in Mlang, North Cotabato while on board a government vehicle loaded with rice and election campaign materials may just have to say goodbye to his job.
Barangay Chairman Richard Pandacan of Caridad, Tulunan, who was booked for violation of a Comelec Resolution which bans barangay officials from involvement in partisan politics, was recorded on videocam openly campaigning for his candidates and even threatening the village people to follow his orders.
When he was accosted while on board a government vehicle three days ago, he reasoned out that the sacks of rice and money were intended for the “dead” in his village.
The video recording of his campaign speech would be an incontrovertible evidence of his involvement in partisan politics.
Actually, more than just buying votes and campaigning, the act of the barangay chairman of openly defying the law is what is more scary.
It is reflective of the impunity of village officials in making a travesty of election laws.
Under President Rody Duterte, however, these village officials will soon find out that the days of abuse of power and the mockery of laws are coming to an end.
Now, they will realize that they will be punished and Barangay Chirman Pandacan will be giving the first testimonial on the uncompromising policy of President Duterte that people should follow the law
