I am deeply touched because I am the direct beneficary of this extra-ordinary mass movement unnoticed by political pundits and not reflected in the survey results.
In many areas of the country, especially places where agriculture and fisheries were adversely affected by the massive importation of farm products and the high cost of farm inputs, farmers are spending their own money to print campaign tarpaulins, stickers and t-shirts.
They organized themselves into groups and designated areas where they do the campaigning among their relatives and friends.
In the Leyte-Samar Region, businessman Archie Fuentes marshaled his workers in a postering campaign covering the two islands.
This was the same phenomenon which I saw during the Presidential run of then Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, although he had a far greater mass following because he touched the core social issues at that time – corruption, criminality and drugs.
My battlecry, on the other hand, focuses on the environment, food sufficiency and jobs, not as controversial as those carried by President Duterte.
Pero napansin ko, my message is getting traction that even the Presidential candidates are also now carrying my advocacies.
With over a month to go, I have this gut feel that this movement on the ground bring us to the Senate after the May elections.
If that happens, it will be proven once again that advocacies which affect the lives of our people could still delivery a political victory.
