The Giant Bamboo Program which is part of my Green Philippines Advocacy will be pursued in the different parts of the country by organizing Bamboo farmers into clusters comprised of 1,000-hectares.
This time, however, the Giant Bamboo Propagules will no longer be given out free to just about anybody who asks for it but will be part of a well-planned program which would give birth to a multi-billion peso industry which would produce Engineered Bamboo.
Each Bamboo Cluster will be organized involving a group of farmers with an aggregate total area of 1,000 hectares.
With a density of 200 Giant Bamboos for every hectare, each cluster will plant 200,000 propagules which, upon reaching maturity at 4 to 5 years, would be ready for harvest.
The mature Giant Bamboos will be bought and processed in a facility which could be owned by the organized farmers themselves or by a group which I will organize.
This will be the start of the Bamboo Industry in the locality expected to contribute to the greening of the country, prevention of soil erosion, food production (through the harvest of the succulent young bamboos to be made into pickles), engineered bamboo production for furniture and construction, and job generation.
My Green Bamboo Advocacy Group is ready to conduct an on-line orientation on the program and we would be willing to help farmers organize so that they could access funds for the Giant Bamboo production.
The schedule of the on-line orientation on the Green Bamboo Industry Development will be announced later.
