Farming Requires Patience, Perseverance & Determination!

Those who are not into farming will never understand or appreciate the long and tedious process of developing a new breed of chicken or a new variety of plants.
For chicken breeders, it could just start with a pair, a rooster and a hen of outstanding line either for free-range meat or egg production.
The first step is to breed the pair, then the female offspring is bred back to the rooster while an outstanding male offspring is bred back to the hen.
This process is repeated for four or five times until enough breeders from both lines are produced and then the mass production begins.
For plants, it could just start with one seedling or a few seeds which are reproduced either asexually or in the case of crops like Soybeans replanted.
I am now in the process of propagating new Soybeans varieties which I believe are better than our locally available varieties like the Manchuria White.
Two varieties came from India while I was able to salvage a few seeds from the pack which was sent to me by my friends from the U.S.
For the Indian varieties, it would take me another 8 months before I could produce enough seeds for large scale planting while for the two U.S. varieties which I saved, it would take me about 18 months.
It really takes a lot of patience, perseverance and determination nurturing a few seeds just so new varieties could be developed to improve the Soybeans Industry of the country.
Which is why the impatient and those with the quick-fix mindset often resort to importation because it is the easiest way to acquire the commodities that the country needs.
The easiest route, however, may not be the wisest and it could lead us on a road to agricultural perdition.
