I’m Joining Global Farmers Network In London June 23-29!

On June 22, I will travel to the United Kingdom to represent the Philippines in a 7-day Forum of farmers around the world organized by the Global Farmers Network, a Des Moines, Iowa based advocacy group.
I knew very little about the GFN but it was Cebu-based farmer A.D. Alvarez who presented to me the idea of joining the network and with my consent he recommended me to join the forum to be held in London this year.
Here is more information on what the Global Farmers Network is:
“Global Farmer Network is a non-profit advocacy group led by farmers who support free trade and farmers’ freedom to choose the tools, technologies and strategies they need to maximize productivity and profitability in a sustainable manner.
“The GFN is a global organization that connects farmers of different genders, farm sizes, types, and locations around the world. Despite speaking different languages and having unique voices, they share a common passion and commitment to amplify their message and show unity as a community. The goal is to increase the volume and impact of farmers’ opinions and concerns.
“Established in 2000, the Global Farmer Network® amplifies the farmers’ voice in promoting trade, technology, sustainable farming, economic growth, and food security. The Global Farmer Network (GFN®) identifies, engages and supports strong farmer leaders from around the world who can work with others to innovate, encourage and lead as full stakeholders in the work that is being done to fill the world’s food and nutrition security gap in a sustainable manner.
“Unique in its make-up and global approach to food security and poverty reduction, the GFN serves as a communication platform engaging the farmers voice in support of trade and the importance of access to agriculture innovation and technology for all farmers through an active website, farmer-authored editorials placed nationally and internationally, a rapidly growing social and digital media presence and speaking opportunities for the farmers at important meetings and conferences around the world.”
The GFN will cover all of my expenses to be incurred in participating in the Forum but more than just the free travel, what makes me so excited is the opportunity to learn from other farmers around the world.
