In breeding Chicken, Goats, Cattle, Carabao and even Race Horses, there will always be one or two which would stand out from the rest.
For gamefowl, breeders call it the “Winning Line,” in Free-Range Chicken the prolific layers, in Dairy Cows the great milkers, in Carabaos the strongest in pulling carts or plows and in Race Horses the fastest.
When these outstanding materials pop out, they are likened to discovering a lode of Gold because their discovery could lead to improve the herd or the flock.
From outstanding breeders, come quality offsprings which is why farmers should always have keen eyes in watching for these rare genetic materials.
In my goat farm now, I am extremely excited about a young Goat Buck Kid which is half-Anglo Nubian and half-Lamancha, both dairy breeds.
Born on Feb. 14, this young buck kid, who has been named “Valentino,” at 80 days old is almost as big as his dam and while size is not an assurance of outstanding milking performance, it always follows that the bigger the dairy goats, the more milk is produced.
This is simple farm genetics which every farmer must understand.
