Early today, I visited the farm of my long-time friends, couple Ronnie and Pinky Millomeda, in Makilala, North Cotabato.
Pinky was a member of my staff when I was Governor but left government shortly after my term ended in 2007.
Today she runs a travel agency and she and Ronnie have started farming.
They started planting grapes in their 8-hectare farm in Dagupan, Makilala town.
They are now harvesting and they are producing quality table grapes.
They are now also offering planting materials for other farmers.
They are still far from recovering their financial investments but I saw in their faces the glow of a happy couple who find joy in farming.
Indeed, more than the income, farming’s greatest reward is the excitement of waking up to a new day to see the plants bloom and bear fruit.
