I was on my second term as Governor of North Cotabato when God blessed us with a boy.
Bernhart Immanuel came 13 years after our second daughter, Josa Bernadette, who came 3 years and 6 months after the first child, Maria Krista.
Imman was born with a hole in the heart and he had to be kept in an incubator for two weeks before we brought him home.
He survived the heart abnormality and it has totally healed.
That’s how he got the nickname Braveheart which is now the name of our farm in Kidapawan City.
Back home, we found out that he had the Hirschsprung Disease which prevented him from defecating.
On the day he was scheduled to undergo Colostomy, I tried to stimulate his anus by blowing air at it, a game which we did with the anus of chicken when we were growing up in the farm.
The air blown into the anus of the chicken caused muscle movements closing and opening the anus. This gave us all a big laugh.
When I did that on Imman, I saw the same muscle contraction followed by a massive dislodge of wastes from his intestines which he had kept for days.
That simple farm game saved my son from the doctor’s knife.
Today, Imman has grown to be a model child, respectful, loving with strong faith in God.
He does not ask for what he does not need and has remained a humble kid.
True to the bloodline, Imman sings well and plays both the guitar and piano.
I have convinced him to pursue veterinary medicine so that he could take over the farm when I am gone.
Lately, he expressed his interest in genetics which is not very far from veterinary science.
One thing is certain, he is very close to our chicken in the farm.
After all, it was because of our childhood game with chicken which saved him from Colostomy and the family fron stiff doctor’s fees.
Happy birthday, Imman and continue to believe and have faith in God.
You will never go astray!
