Buy Back Program! ‘Manok Pinoy’ FARMER SELLS BACK TO BRAVEHEART FARMS

Kidapawan City – The Buy-Back Program for Manok Pinoy is now working.
In September last year, farmer Rogel ‘Butsoy’ Tampus and his wife, Mae, came to my farm to buy 18 heads of Manok Pinoy breeders to start a backyard chicken breeding program in their farm near the boundary of North Cotabato and Davao Del Sur.
They said that their brother-in-law, Titus Salva, a seaman, and his wife, Catherine, a midwife who is a friend of my daughter, Dr. Maria Krista, provided them with the initial capital to buy the breeders.
Since the Manok Pinoy they bought, 3 roosters and 15 hens, were all ready to breed, they were able to produce immediately.
When they had about 200 cockerels and pullets, Butsoy’s wife posted on Facebook that they were selling the offsprings out of the Manok Pinoy they bought from my farm.
As soon as I saw the post, I immediately had them contacted and told them that I will buy all the healthy pullets weighing at least 800 grams at P350 each.
Yesterday, Catherine told me they decided to sell some of the Manok Pinoy chicken because the COVID 19 Pandemic prevented her husband from boarding his vessel.
In fact, Titus is now stuck in Metro Manila.
This is the implementation of the Buy-Back-Program which I wanted to undertake to encourage backyard raisers of Manok Pinoy to produce more.
Why am I buying back the offsprings of the Manok Pinoy breeders my farm sold?
The reason is Manok Pinoy has become so popular that we could not cope up with the orders for breeders.
Yesterday, my farm paid P54,500 for the first set of young pullets that we bought back which will be raised for another 2 months before they will be released to other buyers.
I advised them to sell the excess males to the meat market at P200 per kilo live.
To help Butsoy produce healthy breeders, I brought along my cousin, Neri Sodusta, and several boys from the farm and started a vaccination program.
Since their farm is just very near mine, I promised Butsoy that I will share with them the vaccines that we will use so we will both produce Manok Pinoy chicken with the same health programs.
I also offered to give Butsoy an old fishing net given to be by my friends at Ren and Rell Fishing Company of General Santos City so he could expand his breeding program.
Yesterday, the Tampus and Salva Family forged an unsigned agreement with my farm that we will buy back all of their healthy production.
This is the perfect example of a complete value chain in agriculture where we teach farmers new livelihood opportunities, help them produce and provide a market for their products.
