FORMER HOUSE SPEAKER, DA SECRETARY 3 CONGRESSMEN CHARGED IN PORK SCAM

MANILA, Philippines –Three former congressmen, an ex-Agriculture secretary, and heads of government agencies face a malversation complaint for another case of the alleged misuse of their pork barrel funds.

Ombudsman investigators filed the complaint against former Speaker Prospero Nograles (appointed as caretaker-Representative of the 1st District of Misamis Oriental following the death of Representative Danilo Lagbas), Bukidnon Representative Candido Pancrudo, Jr., La Union Representative Thomas Dumpit, Jr., as well as former Department of Agriculture Secretary Arthur Yap for the alleged misuse of P163.2 million worth of Priority Development Assistance Funds (PDAF).

Emmanuel "Manny" Fantin Piñol (born December 16, 1953) is a Filipino journalist, writer, agriculturist, environmental protection advocate and politician. He served as Mayor of M’lang, Cotabato from 1995 to 1998, Governor of Cotabato from 1998 to 2007, Vice Governor from 2007 to 2010, Agriculture Secretary from June 30, 2016 to Aug. 5, 2019 and Chairman of the Mindanao Development Authority from Aug. 6, 2019 to Oct. 5, 2021. He authored the book “Feeding Millions” published in 2015 and introduced innovations in Agriculture such as the digital crop suitability map (www.farmersguidemap.do.gov.ph), the Solar-Powered Irrigation Technology, crafted Road Maps for the different basic crops and helped the Dept. of Agriculture achieve a historic high rice harvest of 19.28-million metric tons in 2017. He also initiated the National Food Consumption Quantification Study conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization. He is the first and only Filipino Agriculture Secretary to be elected Chairperson of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization biennial conference in Rome from 2017 to 2019. He is now one of the candidates for the Philippine Senate.
