Our on-going field experiment on the use of Chicken Manure Slurry or Sludge mixed with In-Organic Fertilizer showed remarkable improvement in the growth and productivity of Sorghum.
In response to requests from followers of this page for more information on how to apply the Chicken Manure Slurry, I will share what we had done to attain an average yield of over 7-metric tons per hectare.
1. First Application – 10 Days After Emergence of Sorghum: Drench rows with Six 200-liter drums of Slurry, InOrganic Fertilizer and Water Mix @40 liters of Slurry per drum, 5 kgs. of 16-20-0 and 5 kgs. of Triple 14;
2. Second Application – 20 Days After Emergence. Drench Sorghum Rows using 6 Drums of Mix of 40-liters Slurry, 5 kgs. 21-0-0 and 5 kgs of Triple 14;
3. Third & Last Application – 30 Days After Emergence. Drench Sorghum rows using 6 Drums of Mix of 40-liters Slurry, 5 kgs. Triple 14 and 10 kgs. of 0-0-60.
As supplemental nutrition, spray AMO Foliar Fertilizer @1 pack per hectare on the 15th, 35th and 45th Day after emergence.
Please make sure that in drenching the rows with Chicken Manure Slurry mixed with InOrganic Fertilizer you avoid spraying on the leaves because it will cause burning.
It is also advised that preventive spraying of insecticide is done starting on the 10th day after emergence and every 7 days thereafter until the Sorghum heads starts to appear.
Do not spray during the flowering stage because while Sorghum is self-pollinating, bees and insects are also involved in cross-pollination.
This fertilization protocol has lowered our fertilization cost by 2/3 of what we used to spend using purely Inorganic fertilizer.
