The Green Philippines Advocacy which I started by my lonesome is now getting a lot of support from several sectors, including the uniformed men belonging to the Philippine National Police and the Philippines Marines.
Early today, my older brother, Patricio, a retired PC Special Action Force officer, relayed to me a message from Police Brig. Gen. Emmanuel Peralta who said he wanted to introduce the Giant Bamboo in Ilocos Region covering the provinces of Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Abra, La Union and Pangasinan as an Environmental Program of his Command.
Since wala akong number ni General Peralta, who is actually from Kidapawan City, I told my brother that I would be ready to deliver 10,000 Giant Bamboo large planting materials by the second week of February.
Gen. Peralta is the second Police General to introduce the planting of Giant Bamboos after Brig. Gen. Filmore Escobal of the Davao Region Police Command who joined me in planting the first 1,000 Giant Bamboo seedlings in the Mindanao Police “Green Camp” at the foot of Mt. Apo in Kapatagan, Digos City yesterday.
Earlier, Brig. Gen. Jonas Lumawag of the 10th Marine Bridge based in Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur led the planting of 1,000 Giant Bamboos in the town of Buldon, Maguindanao.
Another Marines Officer, Brig. Gen. Romeo Racadio, Commander of the 2nd Brigade and head of Joint Task Force Tawitawi, also requested for Giant Bamboo planting materials for his area.
BGen. Racadio is actually a son of retired Ilocano teachers from my hometown, M’lang, North Cotabato.
Under the Green Philippines Advocacy which I started, I am distributing for free about 100,000 Giant Bamboo planting materials and several thousands of Abuyog Sweet Jackfruit seedlings to the different provinces of the country.
The advocacy is intended to contribrute to the re-greening of the denuded mountains of the country and start livelihood activities through bamboo processing for building materials and furniture.
The Giant Bamboo propagules actually come from bamboo farmers of Bukidnon and are propagated in my farm nursery in Kidapawan City.
The interest shown by the uniformed men in the program comes as a pleasant surprise for me because with their discipline and coordinated efforts, the Green Philippines Advocacy would certainly succeed.
Other Police Regional Offices who would be interested in joining the program are advised to coordinate with Police Col. Henry Villar of the North Cotabato Police Office who is also supporting the Green Philippines Advocacy.
