My personal campaign to make the Philippines Green again has taken a foothold in two more Visayas Provinces.
Cebu and Negros Oriental Provinces received 1,000 large planting materials of the Giant Bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper) and a few hundred seedlings of the Abuyog Sweet Jackfruit.
Earlier, I covered the six provinces of Western Visayas and the two provinces of Mindoro.
All provinces in the Philippines which could be reached by my old Isuzu Elf truck will get their share of the planting materials which would serve as Mother Trees or sources of propagules and scions for expansion.
The Green Philippines Advocacy through the Binhi ng Pag-unlad Program aims to introduce Giant Bamboo and high-value fruit trees as options in the national greening program.
This is based on my observation that the current National Greening Program is moving at snail’s pace because it mainly focuses on environmental protection.
The planting of Giant Bamboos and fruit trees promises economic returns which I expect would encourage people to plant more.
