Using the little knowledge I learned from Ilocano farmers from San Nicolas, Ilocos Norte, I have started planting Garlic in my backyard in Paco, Kidapawan City.
The Garlic cloves were planted in elevated plots because the area is low-lying and often waterlogged.
To prepare the plots prior to planting, I applied a combination of Organic and In-Organic Fertilizer.
The Garlic Cloves were also soaked in root growth enhancer before these were planted.
Today, the farm boys will cover the plots with mulch of mowed “Talahib” which was cut last week.
The Garlic area is not wide and I only used about 30 kilos of cloves of the Bawang Ilocos.
But the plots will serve as my classroom as I continue learning ways to propagate this high-value product which we heavily import.
