The most critical phase in the life of a chicken is the first 45 days from the day it is hatched.
This is especially true when the farm uses incubators instead of hen hatching.
In my case, I preferred using incubators because of the number of eggs we collect weekly.
During the first 45 days, the chick is very vulnerable to diseases ranging from stress-caused cold nights to the dreaded coccidiosis, fowl pox, coryza and New Castle Disease.
In this critical phase, an efficient brooding system is very important.
In the many years spent in breeding and developing the Manok Pinoy, I have tried every known chick brooding system available to farmers like mr.
I tried the enclosed box, pen brooding, range brooding and the circular GI sheet brooder.
So far, I believe that the Circular Brooder made out of GI Sheets which I learned from other chicken farmers is the most effective.
Since it is open at the top, the chicks get a lot of fresh air and the circular shape prevents trampling during a stampede which is the common cause of high mortality in the brooder.
What is needed would be several hanging bulbs to keep the chicks warm at night and rice hull also to keep them warm and make the cleaning of the brooder easy.
It is during the brooding stage when the chicks are given the needed immunization and vaccines before they are transferred to the free range where they will mature either as breeders or meat chicken.
