I, Farm Boy! Custom-Made Egg Incubators For Backyard Poultry Raisers

The Braveheart Farms which my family owns based in Kidapawan City is now producing custom-made chicken egg incubators for medium-sized backyard poultry farms in Mindanao.

This is a modern incubator which has an automatic turner and computerized heat and humidity measuring instrumentations.

I decided to venture into incubator fabrication after a group of chicken egg incubator technicians successfully repaired and improved the performance of my incubators in the farm.

I asked them to support my advocacy to promote backyard chicken raising.

One of the challenges in starting a medium sized backyard chicken farm of about 40 hens is the hatching.

While the hens could sit on and hatch their eggs, it would be very difficult to program the vaccination since the chicks will not hatch at the same time.

An electric incubator is a must for a medium-sized poultry farm.

The Braveheart Incubator is what is called a “Tandem Incubator,” which means that one side is intended for incubation for 18 days while the other side is the hatcher where the chicks will break out from the shell on the 21st day.

The design is based on my experiences as a backyard chicken farmer where an independent sitter and hatcher set-up is more expensive because of greater power usage and maintenance cost.

Right now, we are fabricating 10 units which we could share with other poultry raisers in Mindanao with an incubation capacity of 600 eggs.

The farmer could load 200 heads every week and move these to the hatcher on the 18th day.

It will be sold for P85,000 which would include setting up and calibrating the incubator.

Since our purpose is to help other farmers succeed, there will be a free maintenance guarantee for units sold within Mindanao.

Damaged parts, however, will have to be shouldered by the farmer.
