Lemongrass, the newest agricultural crop that I am promoting now, is so easy to propagate because it grows almost everywhere.
When I visited the Lemongrass farms in Murcia, Negros Occidental with Ram Pump expert Auke Idzenga early this year, I brought home with me several sackfuls of planting materials.
I planted these in the peripheries of my orchards and in the dikes of my fishponds.
Today, I checked those which we planted a few months ago and found out that they are growing vigorously.
So, I instructed the boys in the farm to thin out the clumps by taking out some of the stalks to be replanted in other areas.
Lemongrass is best planted in rolling, undulating and hilly areas where it will also be effective in preventing soil erosion.
By the way, I have been asked whether Lemongrass and Citronella are one and the same.
The answer is No!
Lemongrass is full green while Citronella has red to almost velvet stalks.
Also, while Lemongrass oil and Hydrosol could be ingested by both human beings, chicken and animals, I learned that Citronella could have adverse effects.
