The greatest challenge I faced with raising Manok Pinoy in the free-range was the high mortality rate because the chicks are exposed to the elements.
Respiratory Diseases and Coccidiosis rendered the chicks weak and vulnerable to other problems.
But thanks to the lessons shared by a friend, gamefowl breeder Lance dela Torre, who unselfishly provided us the help to address free-range problems.
Lance who produces thousands of gamefowls in Negros Occidental every year, actually loaned to my farm one of his trained farm hand who handled chick-rearing for him.
Today, with almost 2,000 younh Manok Pinoy in the free range and another 3,000 in the brooder and soon to be moved to the free range, our mortality is just about 1%.
We lost chicks not to diseases but stampede when they are first brought to the range.
Thanks to Lance for this wonderful gift.
Now we could confidently project that we could raise as many as 10,000 Manok Pinoy breeders by June 2020.
(I took the videos and photos of the new batch of chicks transferred in the range this week.)
