On my trip to Talakag, Bukidnon yesterday, I convinced my son, Imman, to come along with a friend and four cousins, children of my brothers.
Since he is an incoming veterinary student, I wanted Imman to learn more on the raising of goats in the highlands.
Arriving in Miarayon last night, they pitched tents and enjoyed the cool evening.
I allowed them to drink Tequila but they were not even able to consume a bottle.
Without access to the internet, not even a phone signal, they spent the rest of the night talking and bonding.
Early this morning, I brought them to the organic farm of tribal farmer Ryan Danio where they were allowed to pick strawberries and harvest Carrots and huge Cabbage.
They immensely enjoyed the experience and the on-field lectures I gave them.
Then, it came to my mind.
Ito pala yong pinaka effective way of convincing kids to love farming – make them enjoy the harvesting.
After the harvest, they peppered me with questions on how to plant strawberry, Carrots and Cabbage.
After the short farm exposure this morning, I have added 6 more young kids to the growing number of youth who now realize that you could harvest only if you plant.
