People who have seen my breeding pens where I keep 3 roosters to mate with 20 hens have always asked why the roosters inside the pens do not fight.
The secret to this is very simple.
Let them establish friendship, familiarity and pecking order by raising the male chicks together from the day they are hatched.
Chicken have a hierarchial order and by raising them together, they are able to agree among themselves who is the Boss or the Alpha male.
When you place them with the hens in the pen, there could be instances when they would fight.
But if they were raised together, the fight will not last long.
In some instances where they continue fighting, you have to take them out of the pen and breed them separately.
