It may be the start of the political season which ends on May 12, 2022 but whatever the outcome would be, we will remain as farmers.
So, tuloy lang ang ating advocacy to share farming knowledge and technique to our fellow farmers.
In this post, I am sharing asexual propagation technique for the Abuyog or EVIARC Sweet Jackfruit.
There are several ways of growing fruit trees.
The common and age-old practice is to plant seeds taken from a tree with best tasting fruits, germinate these then plant.
The problem with seeds is that it would take a long time before the tree will bear fruits.
Also, there is the danger that the seeds may not be a true copy of the mother tree because of cross-pollination.
The best way to ensure that you will have a “true-to-type” planting material which would be a perfect copy of the mother tree is through Asexual Propagation.
Asexual propagation involves the cutting of a twig or a stem of the mother tree which is then nurtured to grow as a perfect clone.
The most common method of Asexual Propagation is Grafting which involves the cutting of a scion from the mother tree to be implanted in a rootstock.
For the EVIARC Sweet Jackfruit, our experience is that Inarching is the best method.
