I, Farm Boy! Lemongrass Hydrosol Tested On Poultry Respiratory Illness

Starting last week, I started an experiment to validate an anecdotal account that giving Lemongrass Hydrosol to chicks boosts their immune system.

The study was actually prompted by the report of Mindanao inventor Rudy Cane that his brother, Agusan del Sur Gov. Santiago Cane no longer vaccinates his free-range chicken since he started mixing Hydrosol in the drinking water.

Lemongrass Hydrosol is the steam accumulated and liquified during the production of essential oil.

He said that chicks given Hydrosol do not manifest respiratory problems, especially “halak” and “sipon.”

There is credence to this account because when I started drinking Lemongrass Hydrosol with Calamansi, my chronic Rhinitis eased.

What we do now is to mix water and Hydrosol on a 1-to-1 ratio and add Vetracin Gold in thr drinking water of young chicks for 5 straight days.

For the more mature chicks showing manifestations of respiratory problems, we give them pure Hydrosol with mucolytic powder for 3 straight days.

We will give them plain water for 3 days and repeat the process if needed.

The experiment is on-going and I consider this a very important study because this could help free-range chicken farmers address common respiratory problems.

Also, if proven effective, this could be a major breakthrough for our Lemongrass farmers and the organic chicken production program.
