Aside from growing the Hass Avocado variety for the export market, I am now propagating the local “Malagkit” or glutinous Avocado variety.
I have three trees of this variety which were already growing in my farm in Kidapawan City when I acquired the property in 1993.
I did not really mind the trees as they bore fruits almost every year.
In fact, I jokingly referred to the trees as the “Mystery Avocado” because I saw them bearing fruits but I never tasted a ripe fruit.
Palagi akong nauunahan ng mga trabahante sa farm.
Early this year, when the trees started to bear fruits again, I made sure I got my share.
The fruits tasted very nice and really “Malagkit.”
So, I decided to propagate the variety by harvesting the scions and grafting these to local rootstocks.
Now, I have about 2,000 “Malagkit” Avocado seedlings ready for planting this year.
I am sure this will be a hit in the market because of its good taste.
But I regret that I failed to discover its quality for alnost 30 years.
Sayang ang panahon. Ang dami ko na sanang malagkit na Avocado ngayon.
