Three feed formulations made by Fil-Am farmer-scientist Rocky French are now undergoing actual farm tests to determine the nutritional benefits.
The three pelletized feed formulations are Aqua Feeds, Chick Grower and Hen Layer Feeds.
The Aqua Feed Formulation is being tested in the small Catfish or Hito farm of my brother, Joselito.
The feeding trials will be for 15 days and these started with a sampling of the fats of the Hito.
After 15 days of feeding, the Hito will be harvested and the fats and taste will be tested.
For the Chick Grower and Layer Feeds, several pens will be selected for the new feed formulation compared to other pens where the fowls will be given the commercial feeds.
What makes these feeds remarkable is the use of local available materials, except for the micro-minerals.
When proven effective, the locally formulated feeds will cost less than the commercial feeds.
It will also provide a ready market for local farmers’ products and create job opportunities.
Most of all, it is expected to help the country achieve Food Self-Sufficiency.
