Forty days from hatching and after they were transferred from the brooder to the free range, Manok Pinoy chicks showed remarkable growth weighing between 400 grams to 500 grams or one-half kilo.
The black and barred chicks appeared to grow faster than the few reds and off-colors which is why I am breeding towards the Black and Barred lines.
With this growth rate, Manok Pinoy cockerels could be over 1 kilo in less than 3 months, faster than the traditional native chicken.
This means that they will have tender but firm meat because they are young and raised in the free range.
With more pullets now in the yards starting to lay eggs, the production of Manok Pinoy is increasing exponentially.
We now have over 2,000 chicks in the free range while 3,000 more are in the brooders.
At the rate we are hatching chicks, I am confident that I will have 10,000 pullets and hens to breed by June next year.
This is the fulfilment of my dream as a farmer and a reward for the 9 years of difficult and expensive learning process and hard work to develop a chicken breed I can call my own.
