I, Farm Boy! My Manok Pinoys Enjoy Fresh Crushed Squash

This morning, I took a long farm walk to stretch my aching leg muscles from the 3-day Mt. Apo climb.

Joined by Fil-Am farmer scientist Rocky French and journalist, I visited my free-ranged Manok Pinoy breeders.

To my delight, I saw my chicken feasting on crushed Kalabasa mixed with corn bran.

Actually, before I climbed Mt. Apo last Jan 30, I instructed my farm workers to test-feed the chicken with squash.

Malaking savings ito para sa akin kasi ang 1 kilo ng Kalabasa ay P6 lang samantalang ang feeds ay P25.

Makakatipid ako at lilinaw pa ang mata ng mga manok ko.

Emmanuel "Manny" Fantin Piñol (born December 16, 1953) is a Filipino journalist, writer, agriculturist, environmental protection advocate and politician. He served as Mayor of M’lang, Cotabato from 1995 to 1998, Governor of Cotabato from 1998 to 2007, Vice Governor from 2007 to 2010, Agriculture Secretary from June 30, 2016 to Aug. 5, 2019 and Chairman of the Mindanao Development Authority from Aug. 6, 2019 to Oct. 5, 2021. He authored the book “Feeding Millions” published in 2015 and introduced innovations in Agriculture such as the digital crop suitability map (www.farmersguidemap.do.gov.ph), the Solar-Powered Irrigation Technology, crafted Road Maps for the different basic crops and helped the Dept. of Agriculture achieve a historic high rice harvest of 19.28-million metric tons in 2017. He also initiated the National Food Consumption Quantification Study conducted by the Food and Agriculture Organization. He is the first and only Filipino Agriculture Secretary to be elected Chairperson of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization biennial conference in Rome from 2017 to 2019. He is now one of the candidates for the Philippine Senate.
