Inarching, a method of grafting where the rootstock is connected to a growing branch without separating it from its parent stock, has been proven to be the most effective way of propagating the EVIARC Sweet Jackfruit.
This is based on our experiences in my nursery in the Braveheart Farms in Kidapawan City where we propagate the EVIARC Sweet Jackfruit, also known as the Abuyog Sweet, along with Hass Avocado, Giant Bamboo, Madre de Agua and Mulberry.
Other methods were tried in the past, including the Cleft and Saddle Grafting, where the scions are taken from the Mother Trees and inserted into rootstocks on the ground.
The survival rate, however, was very low which prompted us to shift to Inarching, a method that now gives us up to 95% survival.
Inarching is more laborious since the rootstocks in bags are hung to the tree branches and must be watered consistently to survive but the grafted seedlings which are taken down after 45 days are more vigorous.
Now, we are producing as much as 2,000 grafted Jackfruit seedlings through Inarching every month.
