One of the remarkable characteristics of the Manok Pinoy, the breed which I developed in my farm over the last 10 years, is their insatiable liking for grass and anything green.
Placed in an open yard enclosed by old fishing nets, the chicks will literally clean up all of the greens in less than two months.
So at two months old, we have to transfer them to another yard to allow the grass to grow in the old ranging area.
Right after transferring the 2-month-old chicks to a new area, we disinfect and sanitize the old ranging area including the brooding house.
This will make sure that mites and whatever bacteria are killed ensuring a clean area for the next batch of chicks.
The 2-month-old chicks, on the other hand, are dunked into a pail of water with delousing formula to kill the mites in their feathers.
Afterwards, they are given their first dose of our organic dewormer, the Betel Nut.
At age three months, they are ready either for slaughter or for selection as breeders.
