I, Farm Boy! SAVE ON SALT BLOCKS, USE SEA SALT IN BAMBOO

One of the most important needs of goats is salt, according to experts.
“Salt in bags or blocks can help goats grow faster and produce more milk. Whether you’re raising goats for meat or milk, they need salt to help maintain healthy appetite and body weight,” an information posted in a public website said.
In the more modern goat or cattle farms, Salt Block Licks are commonly used.
Among small backyard goat raisers like me, however, this could be very expensive.
So, for many years now, I have been using a technique which I saw my grandfather use when I was still a young boy.
At that time, the Salt Block Lick was still unheard of, especially in the rural areas but older farmers already knew that their work animals needed salt.
My grandfather, Jose, used a bamboo tube, the lower portion of which was sawed to create an opening both sides.
He placed sea salt in the bamboo tube, poured a small amount of water to wet it and then hoisted the tube so that his carabao could lick it.
This is the most practical and most inexpensive substitute to the salt block.
Try it. Your goats will surely love it.
