In the breeding pens of I have set up to produce Manok Pinoy and two other strains, I have 20 hens with three roosters.
I have often been asked: Bakit hindi sila nag-aaway? (Why don’t the roosters fight.)
I often answer in a jest and say that the bravest rooster gets the most beautiful hens and the two others will share the rest.
That’s a joke, actually.
Thrre is actually a secret to establishing a peaceful co-existence among roosters in one pen.
From the day they are hatched to the day they are chosen as breeders, the roosters stay together.
It is during this time when they estsblish the hierarchy or the pecking order where the Alpha male dominates.
For as long as nobody challenges him, there is no trouble in the pen.
However, wben they start fighing, I have to take out all of the roosters and replace with new breeders who also come from the same pen.
