I, Farm Boy! Solving Fruit Cracking: Folk Wisdom & Science

There is an emerging problem in my Abuyog Jackfruit farm which I am trying to solve with the help of fellow farmer-friends and available scientific data.
It is a fruit farming phenomenon called “Fruit Cracking” where near-ripe fruits of Lanzones, Rambutan and Jackfruit crack open, especially after rainfall following long dry spell.
I had earlier learned that one of the first interventions is to water the trees regularly so that the roots will not suck up excessive water during rainfall.
Another friend, however, suggested that I should apply Boron Boric fertilizer.
I validated his information by checking on available scientific data posted in the Internet and found out that he was correct.
Aside from ensuring sufficient irrigation water for the Jackfruit, thr application of Boron Boric Fertilizer at 25 grams per tree per year would address fruit cracking.
I also found out that there are other nutritional disorders of Jackfruit which could be solved by fertilization.
Chlorosis or the yellowing of older leaves could be addressed by applying 5 kilograms of Dolominite or lime per tree every year.
The yellowing of young leaves could be stopped by applying Ferrous Sulfate (FeSO4) at 0.5 kg per tree per year while the yellowing of leaves while the veins remain green indicate the need for Manganese Sulfate (MnSO4) at 0.5 kilos per tree per year.
With these new knowledge earned from a fellow farmer validated by scientific research data available online, we will address the emerging problem in the farm.
