Early today, I fulfilled a promise I made to my grandson, Duane, that I will help him plant his first tree.
Duane is the eldest of my two grandsons from my eldest daughter, Dr. Ma. Krista Piñol and her husband, Chito Solis.
Since he is turning 6 next month, I thought this would be the right time to introduce him to farming.
The young boy, who loves, dogs, cicken and goats, surprised me when after planting his Durian seedling he said that the plant needed water but not too much because “it will drown.”
Then, he sought Divine intervention by praying that his tree will grow and bear fruit.
Such a profound understanding of the basic needs in farming by a 6-year old kid – plants need soil, sunlight and water to grow and prayers so that they will produce bountiful harvest.
Mabuti pa ang musmos naintindihan na kung walang tubig, hindi mabubuhay ang tanim.
I remember that when I presented the P44-B Solar Powered Irrigation System to irrigate 500,000 hectares of rice farms, a so-called economic planner opposed it saying he does not see a correlation between irrigation and increased production.
Muntik akong mahulog sa upuan during the meeting.
Dapat siguro mag-tanong sila kay Duane para matuto sila sa sekreto ng pagbuhay ng tanim.
