These are the sturdy chicks produced out of the cross-breeding of the Oriental Asil breed called Pauwakan or Jolo and the American poultry breeds of Rhode Island Reds and Plymouth Barred Rock.
These are called Manok Pinoy, which I dedicate to our President PNoy and the Filipino people.
North Cotabato stands to benefit greatly from the development of this new breed because the province produces a lot of grains for the production of feeds which could be processed locally.
Processing feeds locally would mean more jobs for the local people and stable prices for the produce of our farmers to include corn and sorghum.
With the help of the University of Southern Mindanao, my future plan as Governor of North Cotabato is to set up a huge breeding facilities for this new breed and produce 3 to 4 million Manok Pinoy chicks which will be raised free-range by farming families and bought back by the provincial government under an economic enterprise program.
A dressing plant which will be constructed beside the Central Mindanao Airport or the Mlang Rural Airport will dress the poultry chicken which could be shipped to the big cities in the Philippines.
At an average price of P140 per kilo, 4 million Manok Pinoys with an average weight of 1.2 kilos will generate an income of about P670 million for North Cotabato farmers every year.
