Learning never ends! Dual-Chamber Brooder Rears Healthy Chicks

In my experience as a chicken breeder, I have come to the conclusion that there are no constants and that everyday offers new lessons.
Since we are using mainly incubators in the hatching of our chicks, one of the greatest challenges is the brooding because admittedly nothing can beat the Mother Hen when it comes to caring for the chicks.
Unlike the Mother Hen which scratches the ground and tells her chicks what to eat, chicks in brooders will depend on what the feeder gives them.
Unlike the Mother Hen whose body heat is enough to keep her chicks warm, chicks in the brooder must be provided with appropriate heat level to keep them healthy.
This breeding season, we have introduced a new formulation for chick starter which is working very well and has so far prevented vent pasting.
We have also adopted the dual-chambered brooding box, an idea which is not really new but which we are using extensively for the first time.
In the Dual-Chambered brooding box, there are two compartments – one has three 50-watt bulbs with insulators in the walls to keep the heat at 30 to 35 degrees Centigrade whole the other only has two bulbs with temperature at below 30 degrees.
In the wall that separates the two chambers, there are two openings through which the chicks could move in and out of both chambers.
If they feel cold, they go to the warmer chamber and if it gets too hot, they could go back to the other chamber where the feeds and the waterer are.
So far, this works well for us with the chicks remaining agile and Zero mortality up the 10th day.
I hope this shared lesson could help other breeders.
