Life’s Priceless Joy THE FRUITS ARE RIPENING!

By Manny Pinol
Kidapawan City – Absence makes the heart grow fonder.
After a 10-day trip to South Africa, I woke up this morning in my farm in Paco, Kidapawan City to the crowing of the roosters and the cool mountain breeze which soothed my tired body.
I felt more relieved as I made the early morning walk in the farm in my rubber boots.
The farm changed a lot after almost two weeks of absence.
Manok Pinoy chicks are running all over the farm and although they are confined to areas surrounded by long fishing nets, they have endless supply of green grass and insects in the morning.
The fruits of the Longkong lanzones which were deep green when I left have started to turn yellow. In two weeks, harvest could start and the farm hands estimate at least 10 tons from the almost 900 fruit-bearing trees most of which I planted in 1996.
The few Rambutans and Mangosteen which were also planted many years ago are starting to yield ripe fruits too.
I reached out to get several ripe Rambutans and after gobbling up about 20 of the sweet meaty fruits, I knew I could skip breakfast.
Moments like this in the farm give me unequalled happiness.
The fresh air and the peace and quiet of the farm are my life’s treasures worth more than a fortune.
