The Taste Test for the new backyard poultry strain called Manok PiNoy continued last Tuesday with a huge group of
visitors from the Department of Agriculture, the business sector and livelihood committee members of the
Municipality of M'lang participating in the activity.
What made the latest Taste Test more interesting was the participation of the most popular native chicken barbecue
restaurant in Kidapawan City, the Jervoso's Native Chicken BBQ which prepared the barbecue and lechon manok.
Eight 3-month-old Manok PiNoy cockerels all weighing over 1 kilo were delivered to Jervoso's Monday night to be
prepared for the Taste Test.
The result was a stunning success as everybody who participated in the Taste Test last Tuesday testified that the
Manok PiNoy barbecue and lechon manok were tastier than the mongrel backyard breed used by most native
chicken barbecue outlets.
The DA officials, sent by Region XII Director Beng Datukan to document the Manok PiNoy project of the Braveheart
Farms, said that they already have a very strong candidate for next year's Gawad Saka Award for an outstanding
project in poultry and livestock.
"The taste is really outstanding and the muscle strands are even better than the mongrel native chicken," said Dr.
Luz Doton who led the DA team in the visit to the Braveheart Farms.
A member of the business team from outside of Kidapawan City who came to the farm to validate Manok PiNoy also
heaved a sigh of relief saying that with the mass production of Manok PiNoy, his problem of finding free-range and
naturally grown native chicken has been solved.
"I bought a live native chicken in our area's public market for P200 per kilo," he said.
With the successful Taste Test Tuesday with the help of the Jervoso's Native Chicken BBQ Restaurant, Manok
PiNoy is surely on its way to the market and the Filipino dining tables next year.
