The Abuyog Sweet Jackfruit which I planted in my farm four years ago are starting to yield more and bigger fruits.
Known as the country’s sweetest Jackfruit, thr Abuyog Sweet was developed by the Department of Agriculture in the Eastern Visayas Agricultural Research Center in Abuyog, Leyte.
I acquired my first trees in 2016 for only P50.per seedling, a price which has gone up tremendously since I started writing about the sweetness of the Abuyog Sweet Variety.
The first trees are now four years old while the second group are three years old and starting to bear fruits.
I have shared the scions of my Jackfruit for free with other farmers in Mindanao so that they too could taste the sweet and firm fruits of the Abuyog Jackfruit.
My next advocacy is to give each provincial agriculture officer of Mindanao provinces at least 10 Abuyog Grafted Seedlings so that they will have Mother Trees for propagation.
Soon, Abuyog Sweet will be all over Mindanao.
