Riding with Lolo!

Yesterday, after plowing a portion of my farm which would be used as a pilot area for Blue Ternate propagation, my grandson, 6-year-old Duane, saw me as I was about to drive the tractor back to the barn.

“Dada, I like to ride with you,” he shouted as he left his breakfast table and clambered up my tractor.

“Wow, this is my first time to ride a tractor,” he said. It was also his first time to see me drive the tractor which is usually operated by my farm workers.

I saw the twinkle in his eyes and the big smile on his face as he sat on my lap and enjoyed the short ride from the field back to the barn.

Then the memories of the joyful moments I had with my grandfather, Lolo Jose, came rushing back.

Growing up in the farm, our ultimate joy as kids was to be able to ride the carabao with Lolo Jose whenever he went to the farm to plow the fields.

It was a happy moment that I still vividly remember over 60 years later.

I am sure, Duane would remember his tractor ride yesterday with his grandfather up until he reaches my age.

There are simple moments in the farm which bring us happiness and beautiful memories.
