The Misyon Pagmamahal medical mission which held a screening for people with goiters, cysts, myoma, eye ailments and cleft lips produced dramatic scenes which moved me to tears.
The activity held yesterday was actually intended only for about 100 candidates for the free surgical operations to be performed by surgeons led by Dr. Ben Valdez of the Maharlika Medical Foundation and supported by Sen. Chiz Escudero.
But about 500 people came and our two doctors who conducted the screening had their hands full.
At the end of the whole activity about 400 patients were screened.
Many were set for minor surgical operations to be performed in Midsayap on Dec. 1 while those who will undergo major operations like goiter and cataract procedures will be brought to Davao City.
Looking at the multitude seeking relief from the pain and ailments that they were suffering, I realized that out there in the remote areas and hills of North Cotabato, people are waiting for government to touch their lives and make them feel better.
I am happy to be an instrument to make these people feel that they are loved and cared for.
