The country’s Oustanding Rice Farmer who holds a record-high harvest of 17-Metric Tons per hectare has accepted the invitation of the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) to conduct field visits and lecture series on modern rice farming in Mindanao.
Danilo Arcales Bolos, a former Overseas Filipino Worker whose 36-hectare farm in Sta. Rosa, Nueva Ecija is considered a model in highly productive rice farming, will share the technology he has developed through the years to improve his yield.
While the national average rice production per hectare per harvest is only 4-metric tons, Bolos had been consistently harvesting 16 to 17 metric tons per hectare every cropping season, twice a year.
Even at a very low price of P12 per kilo, Bolos earns an estimated P200,000 per hectare per harvest.
Bolos credits his high production to his use of a hybrid seed variety, SL8 produced by SL Agritech which has seed production farms in Banaybanay, Davao Oriental, sufficient irrigation water and a combination of inorganic and organic soil nutrients.
What is remarkable in his farming practice is his use of Fish Amino Acid which he ferments himself using fish entrails and molasses.
In a radio interview during the MinDA Advocacy Radio Program Ang Totoong Magsasaka, Bolos said that the use of Fish Amino Acid has brought back friendly insects to his rice farms and he had stopped using insecticide.
MinDA plans to bring Bolos first to the town of Taraka, Lanao del Sur in July during the inaugural opening of six units of Solar-Powered irrigation Project implemented by the local government unit through a loan obtained from the Development Bank of the Philippines.
The technology which will be introduced by Bolos could increase farmers production by at least 2 metric tons per harvest per hectare and could contribute greatly to the country’s rice sufficiency program.
