Four months after I made a difficult sea voyage to the Island of Olutanga, Zamboanga Sibugay, the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) led officials of the town to a 4-day learning journey covering three provinces and 1,500 kilometers.
Led by Olutanga town Mayor Arthur Ruste, the Olutanga delegation composed of about 30 local officials and farmers and fisherfolk leaders visited four important destinations to learn more about agricuture and new fisheries technology.
The group spent the morning of Jan. 22 in my farm in Kidapawan City where I personally guided them in a tour of the different activities I am undertaking as a farmer, including the growing of high value fruit trees, free-range chicken raising and goat farming.
In the afternoon, the group proceeded to the National Mariculture Park in Panabo City, Davao del Norte where Director Jericardo Mondragon and fisheries expert Karen Candilosas showed them the modern fish cages raising Bangus and other high value fish species.
The trip to the National Mariculture Park was a very important part of the journey as the leaders saw how modern technology could increase the income of fisherfolk.
From Panabo City, the team proceeded to Butuan City, Agusan del Norte for the second leg of the journey.
