Before the year ends, I hope to be able to finish writing a book on my experiences in breeding and raising backyard chicken, specifically the Manok Pinoy strain.
I have already started working on it during the COVID-19 Lockdown.
It will be my second book related to farming and agriculture, the first being “Feeding Millions” which was published in 2016.
In the book “Breeding, Raising Backyard Chicken,” I will share my experiences as a farmer whose life has been closely linked to the farm where the family traditionally raised chicken.
In fact, as I have mentioned in a previous post, my first photo as a baby showed me with my parents, Bernardo Magbanua Piñol and Efigenia Coloquio Fantin, and my older brother in our old house in M’lang with a white chicken in the background.
While I spent almost half of my life in the big city as a journalist, I went back to farming and raised chicken when I went home to the province in 1993.
I do not consider myself as an expert in chicken health management, so I will be collaborating with veterinarian friends in presenting solutions to health issues faced by chicken farmers.
The printing of the book will cost a lot of money but I will ask my long-time friend, Senator Manny Pacquiao, to sponsor the publication.
If he agrees, and I am pretty sure he will knowing his generosity, I will be sharing the book to all those who would like to learn more about backyard chicken raising.
This will be my humble contribution to our dream of attaining food security and reducing poverty in the country.
